Dams fail prompt immediate evacuations; Hurri-Dry Nationwide on the Midland-area Michigan floods

BENN FARRELL

Midland, Mich. – After multiple dams breached in Midland County, 10,000 residents along the Tittabawassee River were ordered to evacuate from a major flood disaster. Governor Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency after the morning of May 19 when flood water elevated to several feet covering the streets and downtown Midland.

As of the mid afternoon May 20, Midland has experienced record water levels from the flooding, sewage system failure, power outages and state officials say with water levels continuing to rise the worst of this disaster is yet to come.

Hurri-Dry Nationwide has kept an eye on this situation-turned-disaster and is ready to mobilize to the Midland area to help residential and commercial property owners and managers with the water extraction, cleanup and restoration efforts.

In addition, our company has an inventory of restoration equipment, including emergency power generators, to help other restoration companies in the Midland area handle the massive amount of work it will take to restore that community. Approximately 500 citizens of Midland are presently housed in emergency shelters like ones set up in local high schools.

Our company has the resources to provide all the specialized equipment needed to extract remaining waters and moisture from the commercial and residential properties, when the worst is behind Midland and the restoration and rebuild efforts can begin.

Hurri-Dry Nationwide offers not only a vast line of restoration equipment rental, sales, service and support but also project management, insurance claims management and estimating services using Xactimate software, a pricing program developed by the insurance industry. The process of cleaning up after a flood, especially when sewage systems have failed, involves shutting off gas and power to the property, having certified technicians wear protective equipment for biohazard elements carried in the water, extracting any standing water and removing all soaked contents of the property, shoveling out mud carried in and settled in the property by the waters, removing wall interior surfaces and insulation, scrubbing remaining walls and floors with EPA-registered cleaners and disinfectants, and of course drying the property thoroughly before the rebuilding process begins.

Process is extremely involved and if not done properly could make a property unsalvageable and not removing moisture can cause harmful mold to grow and contaminate the indoor air quality. This is why having Hurri-Dry Nationwide assist you with your or your restoration company’s extraction and cleanup effort is terribly important.
